this is more or less a stream of consciousness post (wish i could take credit for that.... but props go to mckmama) .... bear with me.
i can't come up with a sensational six for this week. i've been trying to think of all the good things that happened this week, and all i keep coming back to is this earthquake in haiti.
i feel absolutely helpless, so i cleaned out my closet and brought 3 bags of clothes to a distribution box that will hopefully make its way to people in need.
i just don't understand how i can go on with life here as if there aren't people in absolute turmoil, wondering how and when they will get through the next hour of the day.
what really gets to me is when i think about and see the kids. i've got some haitian kids at school, and i think of them living in those dire conditions and i want to cry. i wish there was more i could do to help.
i've said several times this week that i wish i could drop everything and go down there to help. i see the images on tv and wonder where the heck would you even begin? where do you start? you've got people trapped who are going to die because we can't get to them. you've got injured people who aren't getting the help they need. you're got people who are ok, but are going to die from dehydration because they've gone 3 days without water.
i begin to wonder how this all fits into God's perfect plan. so many people suffering. it's just so hard to fathom.
i came across this verse this week:
"If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth." 1 John 3:17-18
the people of haiti had nothing.... and now they have less than that.
